Leash Law: All dogs must remain leashed when on public land. Dogs, cats, livestock and other animals found off the owner’s property may be considered “strays” and could be impounded.
Licensing: City and County ordinances require that all dogs and cats be given a rabies vaccine. Those dogs in the leash law areas must be licensed by five months old and must wear their tags at all times.
You may purchase a license at the Humane Society or, if you live in the city of Colorado Springs, Monument or leash law areas of El Paso County you can buy one online. Residents of Fountain may purchase a license at their City Hall. For questions about areas or other animals please call 719-473-1741.
Animal Control: The Humane Society provides control services for residents of Colorado Springs, Fountain, Monument, Fort Carson, and the unincorporated areas of El Paso County. Shelter is available for animals from Manitou Springs and Palmer Lake.
