Dear District Eight Patron,
Our dedication to creating world class learners is stronger than ever! We are committed to prepare ALL students for the 21st Century; a world that doesn’t exist as we know it today. This challenge requires schools to develop a culture of excellence that challenges every student to achieve high standards and to provide a curriculum that is not only rigorous, but “real world” relevant.
Exciting things are happening in District Eight as we continue our journey in moving from “Good to Great”. Last year, the District not only achieved its first school rating of Excellent, but four schools also obtained a High rating. This was our most successful year in District Eight in terms of student achievement. We are confident the necessary strategies are in place to continue to move forward in a positive direction. We have established several key initiatives for the 2007-2008 school year. Our most exciting and challenging initiative will occur at Fountain-Fort Carson High School, where 1,500 students will receive laptop computers. The past year of preparation has allowed us to establish the learning environment and expectations necessary to prepare our students and teachers for this endeavor. Another initiative is focused on improving our drop-out rate, which has steadily increased over the past few years. For the first time we are offering a Second Chance program where our students who are at risk of dropping out, have already dropped out or have been expelled, will have another opportunity to obtain a high school degree. Providing this individualized program through on-line classes is another way we intend to provide a rigorous, real-world, relevant experience.
Growth continues to be occurring in the Fountain-Fort Carson region. We are very excited to alleviate overcrowding in our Fountain elementary schools by opening a new elementary school, Eagleside Elementary School. It has been twenty years since we have needed a new elementary school and we are thrilled to welcome new families and young children into our community in Fountain.
Whatever challenges we face, we encourage your support and believe we all need to continue to work together to provide our students with the highest quality education possible as they become “world class learners”.
