Tri-Lakes Region Map of Tri-Lakes
The Tri-Lakes Region is located in the foothills of the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains. At an average elevation of 7,000 feet above sea level the area is named for three beautiful lakes that were the focus of early settlement. Newcomers are greeted by a wide expanse of gently rolling hills and pine forests set in front of a backdrop of majestic mountain peaks. The Tri-Lakes area straddles the I-25 corridor about twelve miles north of Colorado Springs and fifty miles south of Denver. It is another area that has evolved from a small agricultural community into a vibrant place to live that allows its residents to enjoy their “country” setting with “city” amenities. Recreation opportunities are plentiful, with public and private golf courses, extensive park systems, access to Pike National Forest and the new Santa Fe Trail that extends sixteen miles from Palmer Lake to the south entrance of the Air Force Academy. With mild winters, temperate summers and plenty of sunshine, the Tri-Lakes area is a special place to call home.
Woodmoor & Gleneagle
Woodmoor and Gleneagle are unincorporated communities in the Tri-Lakes area. Woodmoor is on the east side of I-25 at exit 161 and Gleneagle is just south along I-25 adjacent to the Air Force Academy. With an explosion of new housing developments Woodmoor is fast becoming the community of choice for many newcomers to the Springs. Heavily wooded lots, tennis clubs and championship golf courses are featured in many of the communities that have been developed in recent years. Area schools have also received the necessary investment to keep pace with growth and establish a reputation for quality education. With plentiful recreation and steady improvement in shopping, commercial and medical services Woodmoor and Gleneagle have a lot to offer someone relocating to Colorado.
Monument & Palmer Lake
Monument was first called Henry’s Station after Henry Limbach one of the original settlers. The name Monument was adopted when the Denver & Rio Grande railroad came into the area in 1870 linking Denver to Colorado Springs. The city incorporated in 1879. It is located west of I-25 at exit 161. Palmer Lake is located three miles northwest of Monument at an elevation of 7,200 feet above sea level. It was established in 1872 atop the Palmer Divide when General Palmer thought the location would be an ideal place to draw water for the steam engines of the Denver & Rio Grande railroad. The area around the two towns remained largely as ranch and farmland until the Air Force Academy was opened in 1958. Soon thereafter housing for Academy staff and military retirees began to take hold with growth accelerating in the late 1980’s and 90’s as Colorado Springs began to grow to the north. As fast growing communities both Monument and Palmer retain a unique charm. Historic Downtown Monument offers a variety of shopping and dining establishments. Palmer also has some great dining and is home to the Lucretia Vaile Museum and the Tri-Lakes Center for the Arts. Housing developments keep sprouting up throughout the area offering a wide range of breathtaking views and amenities. Progress is also evident with the significant commercial development along I-25, a school system that is considered one of the best in the state and housing values significantly above the state average. Monument and Palmer – unique communities offering a one-of-a-kind living experience.
