Schriever Air Force Base (formerlyFalcon AFB)
Schriever Air Force Base, the newest base in the United States, is a satellite-control facility 12 miles east of Colorado Springs. It is the home of the 50th Space Wing, the Space Warfare Center, the Ballistic Missile Defense Organization’s Joint National Integration Center, 310th Space Group and other tenant units. The 50th Space Wing, the biggest unit at the base, controls a worldwide network of military satellite tracking stations. Schreiver has become the Defense Department’s primary military space systems control facility. Nearly 4,800 personnel work at Schriever AFB, which is unique as it does not have either a flightline or any aircraft flying missions.
